The government in Ancient Coro was based on a direct democracy. In this type of government the people had a say which allowed them to be more involved in important decisions having to do with Coro. Within this direct democracy there are two main groups; the assembly and the council of 51. The assembly is made of all citizens over 20 years old. This group can vote on laws and other decisions involving Coro. The council of 51 is made up of 51 citizens over 30 years old that are elected representatives. This smaller group enforces and establishes laws and has the ability to develop new laws for the city state. Since women are not considered citizens, they can not take part in government.
